ISTANBUL- In an interview on Sunday on America’s CBS News Face The Nation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told journalist Margaret Brennan that despite Turkey having previously attempted to purchase F-35s – the Turkish leader reiterated the terms of purchase *were not satisfactory.”

Erdogan further commented that “no one will be able to interfere” with whatever defense system Turkey chooses to purchase. The Turkish president made it clear in an almost defiant stance that his country will make up its own mind about it’s defense purchases. He said Turkey does plan to buy additional S-400s from Russia.

Though Erdogan is aware that he stands to possibly jeopardize his relations with Washington if he goes ahead with the deal, he said he remains steadfast in his decision. The point of contention is that the U.S. has repeatedly warned that Russia’s S-400 poses a security threat to it’s F-35 aircraft system.
