Mutlaka Oku

By Janet Ekstract – NEW YORK -On Sunday, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebryesus labeled Gaza’s humanitarian crisis a tragedy as he commented on X: “Today we mark 100 days of a tragedy.” He repeated his calls for a ceasefire, highlighting the “major humanitarian crisis” that has seen no end in sight in Gaza. The WHO chief added: “following over 300 attacks on health and continuous lack of safe access to critical aid, the majority of hospitals in the Strip have stopped working. The 15 facilities that are still working can only provide limited healthcare.” He also said “More than 24,000 Gazans killed – 70% women and children; more injured, many grievously.” According to multiple media reports, deaths and amputations have risen because of a breakdown in the healthcare system in Gaza with diseases rapidly spreading in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions as the WHO chief also highlighted. He further noted: “People in Gaza are living in hell. Nowhere is safe. 100 days, and counting, of incessant insecurity and fear is beyond words.” Ghebreyesus also pointed out the gravity of the situation when he said that the U.N and the WHO face continued obstacles to get basic aid deliveries into Gaza. He also called for the release of Israeli hostages being held by Palestinian groups.
