New York, NY – The MIKTA Movie Festival, a collaborative cinematic showcase hosted by the Consulates General of Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Türkiye, and Australia, kicked off yesterday at the Turkish House near the United Nations Plaza. The festival promises to bring a diverse palette of international films to New York City, celebrating the rich cultural contributions of the MIKTA countries (Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Türkiye, and Australia).

This year’s lineup features films from each participating country, each scheduled for a Tuesday screening between May 7 and June 4. The festival began with Indonesia’s “Labuan Hati” (Heart’s Harbour) on May 7. It will be followed by Mexico’s “Macario” on May 14, the Republic of Korea’s “Minari” on May 21, Australia’s “Sweet As” on May 28, and will conclude with Türkiye’s “Bir Zamanlar Anadolu’da” (Once Upon A Time in Anatolia) on June 4.

Film enthusiasts are encouraged to mark their calendars and reserve their tickets online to ensure a seat at these exclusive screenings. Each film offers a unique glimpse into the storytelling traditions and modern societal narratives of its country, providing audiences in New York an opportunity to embark on an unforgettable cinematic journey.

MIKTA is an informal middle power partnership between Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia which was created in 2013.
