Turkish Journal – Şevval Erdağ – On the fifth day of hearings at the World Court, Qatar emphasized the importance of international law applying to all countries.
Qatar stated at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) during a hearing on Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories that it rejects “double standards” where international law applies to some but not to others.
Senior Qatari diplomat Mutlaq al-Qahtani, speaking in The Hague on Friday, expressed, “While some children are deemed worthy of protection, others are killed in their thousands”. He also added “Qatar rejects such double standards. International law must be upheld in all circumstances. It must be applied to all, and there must be accountability”.
Al-Qahtani stated that Israel maintains the ‘domination of Jewish Israelis over Palestinians’ by implementing an ‘apartheid regime. He also emphasized that Israel’s occupation is deemed ‘illegal’ due to violating the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
While Qatar, the United States, and Egypt mediate ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli occupation continues to have a devastating impact on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. (Aljazeera)
