A session was held at the UN General Assembly to discuss the latest US draft resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza at the UN Security Council.

Here, Francis said today’s meeting underscores the importance of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council to increase joint work and act on common responsibility.

Francis said, “The situation in Gaza is terrible, cruel and shameful. I was horrified at the killing and injury of hundreds of people during food assistance” he said.

Noting that the attack took place after October 7, 2023, when the death toll reached 30 thousand, Francis said that thousands of children were killed and that their dreams evaporated in the horrors of the war.

“The dreams of the gaza people have disappeared, their futures have been wiped out”

Francis said the latest reports revealed that babies died in Gaza because of hunger and malnutrition, adding that “(The dreams of the Ghazze people) have disappeared, their futures erased.

Stating that about 85 percent of the people of Gaza have been displaced, Francis underlined that he is deeply concerned about the increase in air strikes, especially against Welfare.

Francis points out that Israel’s humanitarian restrictions have greatly hindered life-saving aid transport, saying, “The kind of aid that enters Gaza daily has a 50 per cent drop in information from January to February.

“Bombardy needs to end”

Stating that a humanitarian ceasefire must be urgently reached first, Francis stressed that “Bombarding must end.

Stating that all parties must comply with international humanitarian law and international human rights law, Francis said that full and unimpeded transportation of humanitarian aid should be ensured.

Stating that all prisoners must be released unconditionally and immediately, Francis said, “This week we have reached a sad turning point. The violence has been going on for 150 days” he said. (AA)
