UNITED NATIONS (TURKISH JOURNAL) – U.N. representatives in Syria have called for an immediate ceasefire in Syria for at least a month throughout the entire nation in order to get immediate aid and evacuate the sick and wounded from various regions throughout the country.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres previously stated “I am sounding the alarm,” – referring to the most pressing global conflicts with Syria at the top of the list.
Both the U.N. resident humanitarian coordinator and U.N. representatives in Syria describe the situation as “extreme” in that nation and have made this cautionary statement: ” The United Nations humanitarian team in Syria warns of the dire consequences of the compounded humanitarian crisis in several parts of the country.”
The secretary-general in his most recent remarks to the press and U.N. General Assembly sounded the ‘red alert’ on Syria with this remark: “I appeal for humanitarian access, strict respect for international humanitarian law and, in particular, the protection of civilians.”
His report stated that millions of Syrians have lost everything, people who are “suffering dire health conditions are not getting out and we are seeing disturbing new reports about the possible use of chemical weapons.”
Numerous press reports have shown extensive footage of what is thought to be the widespread chemical weapon use of chlorine gas in Syrian enclaves. Heartbreaking media photos of babies, old men, women and the general populace in Syria are evident in a number of mainstream publications.
As Guterres reiterated urgently in his most recent statements: “We must ensure that the U.N. led process moves ahead in Geneva, credibly and seriously. We don’t have a moment to lose.”
