NEW YORK – By Janet Ekstract – Once again, the most romantic and talked about city in the world, Venice, also known in Italian as Venezia, will play host to the 16th Annual Architecture Exhibition that promises to be especially dazzling this year with its new concepts that connect universal ideas that include ‘generosity of spirit’ – ‘nature’s free gifts of light’ – ‘natural and manmade resources’ – ‘democratic space’ and ‘freedom to imagine.’
Pablo Baratta, president of La Biennale di Venezia and curators for the 2019 Biennale, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Dublin-based Grafton Architects, have dubbed the new architecture exhibition as ‘Freespace.’
Both Farrell and McNamara expressed their views about the significance that architecture plays in daily life: “We believe that everyone has the right to benefit from architecture. The role of architecture is to give shelter to our bodies and to lift our spirits.” Both curators stated that their aim is to celebrate the “generosity and thoughtfulness in architecture throughout the world,” in this upcoming exhibition.
As a theme related to sustainability, the two curators commented that the concepts of generosity and thoughtfulness in architecture are to “nurture and support meaningful contact between people and place,” which they both agree are essential to “optimisim and continuity.”
This year’s architectural Biennale is open to the public and slated to run from May 26 through November 25, 2018.
