ISTANBUL (TURKISH JOURNAL) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has labeled U.S. President Donald Trump’s purported Mideast peace deal – an “occupation project,” referring to the absence of Palestinian consent and consensus about the plan which Trump only shared with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Earlier this week, Trump announced the peace plan for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict despite the fact Palestinians had already rejected it.  Erdogan while speaking at the Fifth Anatolia Media Awards  ceremony said: “Jerusalem is not for sale.”

On Thursday, Turkey raised its objections in a phone call from Turkish Ministry Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin to U.S. National Security Adviser  Robert O’ Brien. Kalin made it clear that Turkey supports a two-state  solution to the conflict and the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestine based on 1967 borders including East Jerusalem as its capital.

Turkey reiterated it will not support any plan the Palestinian Authority rejects and that Jerusalem is a ‘red line’ in Turkey’s view.

Trump’s current Mideast peace plan annuls previous UN resolutions on the Palestinian issue and recommends giving Israel close to everything they’ve been demanding.

In December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution requesting the U.S withdraw it’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel ‘s capital.  the capital.
