Turkey-U.S. Agree On More Detailed COVID-19 Cooperation

NEW YORK (TURKISH JOURNAL) – In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Turkish President Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed to continue their mutual cooperation to protect their public health systems and economies in these challenging times during the global COVID-19 crisis.

The Turkish Communications Directorate released a statement that said both leaders spoke via phone on Sunday, covering topics including the pandemic, bilateral relations and regional developments. Turkey and the U.S. have a history of cooperation as NATO allies.

The statement said in the “spirit of solidarity”of the NATO alliance, the two nations plan on furthering their “close cooperation.”

Currently, Turkey has the majority of cases in the Middle East, ranking seventh in the world while the U.S. still ranks highest on COVID-19 infections, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

During this crisis, Turkey has been instrumental in providing much needed medical equipment to 30 countries, including the U.S.
