The Afghanistan Conundrum: A Den Of Iniquity

By Jan Ellen

NEW YORK- The state of affairs in Afghanistan is nothing short of dire and it’s a conundrum that in and of itself has become a chaotic vacuum.

Though the Afghan government has shared its new, strategic plan of attack against the Taliban in the press – money and air support are in short supply. The fact is that the Taliban have gained enough significant ground to possibly take Kabul in what some U.S. officials report might be in less than 90 days. Perhaps even in 30 days.
The other significant fact that remains is that the Taliban now possess a streaming income supply which gives them the upper hand in weaponry. Another tough reality is that talks in Doha that were designed to motivate the Taliban to negotiate with the Afghan government are going nowhere.

Facing the truth – that the Taliban never had any intention of negotiating with anyone and that their only intention has ever been to divide and conquer – is the grim truth.

Former President Donald Trump’s self-congratulatory ‘peace deal’ with the Taliban was no peace deal at all. It gave the Taliban access to previously frozen assets, presuming they would keep a promise not to attack government forces, If there’s one thing experts and analysts know about the Taliban – it’s that they don’t negotiate, period  The Taliban’s goal is to divide and conquer. They have no compassion for civilians and neither a taste for democracy or the truth.

It’s simply a matter of time before the worst nightmare for the Afghan people comes true. A fully cloaked Taliban-run nation where Sharia law rules as the order of the day. And it will be no thanks to the U.S. that the people of Afghanistan are once more beholden to the murderous brutal reality of the Taliban.

One thing is known for sure – there’s no negotiating with the Taliban. And with U.S. President Biden’s steadfast decision to pull the remainder of his troops out by August 31, the people of Afghanistan, once again remain the losers. But then so does the international community because when the Taliban take over, the threat of their global terrorism will loom like the terrifying specter that it  has become.
