KYIV- Honorary Consul General of Ukraine in Damascus, Tamer Altounsi was honored with the highest diplomatic award of Ukraine.
“I think being here is important enough. I’m not here for the prize. My aim is to protect and help Ukrainian citizens,” Altounsi said about the award.
Altounsi, who received many awards, said, “The award you receive is not the most important thing but to achieve my job in the right way is the important thing to me.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine presented the highest diplomatic award to Altounsi, who serves as the Honorary Consul General of Ukraine in Damascus, for his active and important role in the preservation and protection of Ukrainian society in the Syrian cities.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Alferav appreciated Altounsi’s performance towards Ukrainian families spanning the Syrian cities and awarded the medal to Altounsi.
Up to date, more than twenty Ukrainian families live on Syrian territory under the protection of the Syrian state and under the patronage of Consul Tamer Altounsi, who has won the great respect of the Ukrainian people.
Tamer Altounsi was born in Damascus in 1972. He is a graduate of English Literature and got Ukrainian nationality by the order of President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2019.
