İSTANBUL- On Wednesday, 13 members of the UN Security Council abstained Russia’s proposed draft resolution on humanitarian concerns in the war on Ukraine. China was the only member to vote with Russia.
U.S Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield called out Russia on the resolution that though it condemns human rights violations, doesn’t assign culpability to Russia for creating the humanitarian crisis. The U.S. envoy commented it’s a Russian attempt to “provide cover for it’s brutal actions.”
Thomas-Greenfield called out Russia as “the aggressor, the attacker, the invader.” She said it is shocking that Russia has “the audacity” to put forth a resolution concerning the humanitarian situation in Ukraine while it remains the sole cause of that crisis.
A new resolution has been put forth to The UN General Assembly that would condemn Russia for its actions against Ukraine for the second time. The first resolution that did so, passed on March 2.
