Global Food Security Ministerial Conference In Berlin To Address International Challenges

WASHINGTON DC – On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will attend the “Uniting for Global Food Security” Berlin Ministerial Conference in Germany. The conference will focus on how best to deal with increasing issues of food insecurity worldwide. Global initiatives will be discussed in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which has been a major factor in the food security crisis. Other factors affecting food security include climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, various regional conflicts and supply change challenges. Foreign ministers from a number of countries will be attending the conference.

Blinken will also be in Schloss Emau resort in Germany on Saturday to join U.S. President Joe Biden for the G7 Leaders Summit where a number of pressing global issues will be addressed that include unequivocal support on all levels for Ukraine, economic and democratic resilience, combating climate crises, development infrastructure, global health security as well as the food and energy crisis resulting from Russia’s invasion on Ukraine. Blinken will travel to Madrid, Spain for the NATO Summit to be held June 29-30 where Allied leaders will endorse a new Strategic Concept to guide NATO’s transformation throughout the next decade, strengthening deterrence and defense while developing resilience against transnational and hybrid threats. The other focus will center on cybersecurity and climate, deepening global partnerships in Europe and Asia with the aim of strengthening and maintaining a rules-based international order.
