NEW YORK- Ever since Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan spoke on the first day of the 77th UN General Assembly at the United Nations in New York City, he repeatedly talked about clearing a path for peace with Russia and Ukraine while explaining that Turkey has taken a Mediation Initiative in matters of global crises.

On Saturday, the fifth day of the 77th UN General Assembly, proved to be rather significant when China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that his country supports “all efforts conducive to the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis.” Wang added: “The pressing priority is to facilitate talks for peace.” Russian President Vladimir Putin had acknowledged last week at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Uzbekistan, that China did have reservations about the war in Ukraine and China seemed to distance itself from Russian rhetoric on the conflict. Though analysts and experts on Russia and China aren’t holding out any hope that China is seeking a solution for peace in the conflict.

Nevertheless, Wang further commented: “The fundamental solution to the Ukraine crisis is to address the legitimate security concerns of all parties and build a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture.” Wang also referenced the terms “win-win” and “open world economy.”

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron, in his opening speech at the Assembly on Tuesday, said that nations who refuse to speak against Russia’s war on Ukraine are “complicit” with what he labeled as Russia’s “new imperialism.” As Macron commented: “Those who are silent today are serving – whether against their will or secretly, with a certain complicity – the cause of a new imperialism.” He added that the world today faces a choice between “war and peace.” Macron was referring to 58 countries who were reluctant to condemn Russia and abstained during a vote in April to suspend Russia from the UN Security Council. Some of those countries included Brazil, India, Indonesia and South Africa. Macron added that he will continue a’dialogue with Russia in his efforts to achieve peace.
