NEW YORK – On Monday, Long Island Rep-elect George Santos admitted to The New York Post that he did lie on his bio about his education and work experience. This would beg the question as to exactly how Santos plans to serve a two-year term in Congress. While Santos told the Post “I am not a criminal,” lying to the public automatically makes him suspect of the truth. How does Santos think he is fit to be a Congressman if he felt he had to lie on his resume. What else will he lie about if he does end up serving in Congress? Even worse, he supposedly ran on a democratic platform when in fact, it has been reported that Santos is pro-Trump and a Republican!
What’s specifically distressing is why more people are not alarmed about this turn of events and why public outcry seems to be patently absent from this narrative. Santos, who was elected to Congress on November 8 to represent the Long Island and Queens-based 3rd District also lied about his family history, claiming to have Jewish ancestry when in fact, his background is clearly Catholic. The point here is what was he thinking when he fabricated these ‘stories.’ Suddenly, Santos admits to the press that he’s a happily married gay man but also admits to stiffing a landlord for rent.
It’s a wonder that with all these lies and retractions, that the people of these districts aren’t yet demanding he step down and allow someone who possesses integrity to fill the position. The fact is that anyone who would outright lie about their resume, their financial history and their own family background is exactly the type of person who would be most likely to take a bribe and lie again.
The people of New York City need to demand that Santos step down immediately to allow someone with a real resume and an honest background with a history of integrity to preside over these districts. A man who could readily admit his lies with a smile is a man who is definitely suspect on so many levels. The $64,000 question is what are the constituents of Long Island and the 3rd District of Queens waiting for?
Christmas is over, New Year’s is upon us. Santos needs to go, isn’t that obvious? Santos said: “The people elected me to fight for them.” Let’s ask again: How can a man who has lied multiple times, “fight for” your or my rights? Rest my case.
