ISTANBUL- The Turkish Industry and Technology Ministry announced that the first Turkish-made, high-resolution earth observation satellite was launched early Friday morning from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The satellite known as IMECE has an electro-optical camera with submeter resolution which allows it to get a much closer and clearer view of earth. It will operate in orbit simultaneously, with the sun at an altitude of 422.5 miles and will be used to assist with information gathering on defense, disaster management, the environment and urbanization as well as agriculture and forestry. IMECE has a mission life of five years and can capture images from anywhere in the world.
