The United Nations (UN) opposes forced displacement, saying “Palestinians need to be safe in Gaza.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Florencia Soto Nino answered the questions of the journalists at the daily press conference.
Noting that the health situation in Gaza is deteriorating, Nino said that displacement southward increases epidemics.
Since October 7, 2023, 400 thousand people have recorded cases of infectious disease, and about 180 thousand people have contracted upper respiratory tract infections, Nino said.
There are 5 thousand cases of diarrhea, half of which are in children younger than 136 years, Nino said, “Public health is about to collapse in Gaza.
“BM can impose very little”
Asked by Josep Borrell, High Representative for EU Foreign Relations and Security Policy, “the international community must impose a solution on Israel” and asking what the UN can do about it, the “UN can impose very little. We will continue to call for a two-state solution, peace and a humanitarian ceasefire” as the Secretary General said.
Regarding the forced displacement of the people of Gaza, Nino said, “We are totally against the displacement of the Zorla. That’s very clear. Palestinians need to be safe in Gaza. Civilians need to be safe in Gaza” he said. (AA)
