Turkish Journal – Zehranur ERTEK – The Supreme Council of Antiquities announced in a video published on its official Facebook account that the Menkaure Pyramid, the smallest pyramid among the Giza Pyramids, will be re-covered with granite.
Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said, “It will take three years to become what it was like in Ancient Egyptians and it will be Egypt’s gift to the world in the 21st century”
The aim of the project, whose restoration was started by the Egyptian-Japanese joint team, was stated as returning it to its original state as when it was first built.
The restoration, called the “Project of the Year”, was widely talked about on social media.
Many people, from Ibrahim Badr, an academician at Misr University, to Egyptologist Monica Hanna, criticized the implementation of the project.
