New York, NY – Hundreds of Muslims in New York City marked the beginning of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, with a gathering in the iconic Times Square on Sunday evening.
The faithful observed the first Taraweeh, a special evening prayer performed throughout Ramadan. Following the prayers, a powerful display of solidarity emerged as attendees offered prayers for Gazan people that has endured Israeli attacks for over five months.
Across the country, similar scenes unfolded at the American Religious Center near Washington D.C. Here too, Muslims gathered for Taraweeh prayers, with the mosque’s courtyard and garden overflowing with worshippers.
With a growing trend, the muslim population is currently around 3.5 million, representing over 1% of the U.S.
