By Janet Ekstract NEW YORK – Famous Brits have united to provide humanitarian support and to support relief efforts in Gaza. British directors that include Mike Leigh, Ken Loach, Asif Kapadia and Johanna Hogg along with popular actors from major British TV series like “Doctor Who” and “Downton Abbey” already have contributed expensive items to raise funds for the Palestinians in Gaza. Some of the items include a signed poster from the original 1977 theater production of “Abigail’s Party.” Other items include signed copies of the poster and script of Ken Loach’s latest film “The Old Oak” while Kapadia gave a bunch of signed posters and DVDs from his catalog along with Hogg’s donation of a rate neon light from her film “The Souvenir.” On auction, are experiences with Tilda Swinton offering a bedtime story session over Zoom and Josh O’Connor providing a porridge masterclass via Zoom. A well-known astrologer is offering a Zoom astrology chat while several other famous Brits are offering to perform virtually.

Cinema for Gaza is leading the initiative with organizers Hanna Flint, Julia Jackman, Leila Latif, Sophie Monks Kaufman and Helen Simmons – all major figures in the UK film industry. They have underscored the urgency to support Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) – a group whose crucial humanitarian work has been invaluable during Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure destruction.
