Turkish Journal – Şevval Erdağ – Former Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Cavusoglu, who attended the 4th Qatar Economic Forum held in Doha from May 14th to 16th, was a guest at the event hosted by the Qatar Press Center titled “The Future of the Middle East after the Gaza War.”
The event covered topics such as the effects of the war in Gaza, international and regional changes, crucial aspects of achieving peace in the region, as well as the mediation efforts of Qatar and Türkiye. Particularly, Türkiye’s perspective, foreign policy, and relations with other countries regarding this war.
Cavusoglu emphasized that Türkiye’s priority is to prevent conflicts and crises, and highlighted Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts to actively pursue preventing conflicts and finding peaceful resolutions.
Cavusoglu stated that with the death toll surpassing 35,000 and 2.5 million civilians displaced in Gaza, where even the most basic needs of people cannot be met, it can be clearly stated that Israel has committed war crimes.
“Qatar has been our best partner with whom we have collaborated and cooperated through international negotiations to end and prevent these crises and conflicts,” he said.
“As Türkiye, we have made great efforts to end this war, implementing trade restrictions. Additionally, Türkiye has participated in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) case filed by South Africa against Israel for genocide. However, we can only end this war if we act together,” he added.
“The Muslim communities must also be united in order to take effective measures. As the GCC countries are united, they can, together with Türkiye, work to encourage East-West corridors and North-South relations,” Cavusoglu stated.
“The protection of civilians has to be guaranteed,” he emphasized, and concluded, “Hamas is defending the rights of Palestinians.”
