Turkish Journal – Şevval Erdağ – Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American representative in the U.S. Congress, who was present during the speech wearing her keffiyeh, held up a sign that occasionally appeared on camera, reading “war criminal” on one side and “guilty of genocide” on the other.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib expressed her reaction to Netanyahu’s standing ovation in the congressional chamber, stating ‘I was there too, and it was disgusting.’ in a post from her X account.

This gesture garnered significant support on social media.

In an X post, US Senator Bernie Sanders said Netanyahu is “not only a war criminal. He is a liar.”

“All humanitarian organizations agree: Tens of thousands of children face starvation because his extremist government continues to block aid,” said Sanders. “Israelis want him out of office. So he came to Congress to campaign.”

The demonstrations by Palestinian supporters in the United States

Thousands of supporters of Palestine filled the streets of the capital to protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was in Washington to speak at the U.S. Congress.

The protesters, who were not allowed to approach the Congress building due to extensive security measures by the police, continued their protests throughout the day on the main arteries between the White House and the Congress building.

The Palestinian supporters, holding banners and chanting slogans, called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. They chanted slogans against Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden, labeling them as “genocidal”.

More than 39,100 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 90,000 injured, according to local health authorities.

Over nine months into the Israeli onslaught, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which ordered it to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before it was invaded on May 6. (AA)
