TURKISH JOURNAL – PIA BOZYEL – A total of 37 patients, including 34 children and three adults, were evacuated from the Gaza Strip to Egypt on Monday with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO) and partner organizations, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

Accompanied by 39 family members, the patients crossed into Egypt via the Rafah border crossing to receive specialized medical treatment, Ghebreyesus announced in a statement on X.

“We are grateful to the government of Egypt for their continued support and for providing specialized care to patients from Gaza,” he said, stressing the urgent need to accelerate medical evacuations.

“Thousands of lives depend on it,” the WHO chief added, calling for all possible routes to be utilized to ensure critical patients receive life-saving treatment.

Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza have left the health sector on the brink of collapse, with hospitals struggling due to severe shortages of medical supplies, fuel, and personnel. Humanitarian organizations continue to warn of the dire consequences of limited medical access for thousands of injured and chronically ill patients.
